My friend decided she would like to join me at Astley shows just for clear round class, but all she has jumped was bottom height cavaletti in trot, canter scared her. So I started teaching her I love teaching people.

She is so much like me in that she panics and holds, so her horse gets to the fence and pings, but with my help I've had her jumping about clear round height in canter, and she lets him go forward a bit more too.
Her bf took a few pictures in our last session,

I then put a straight up at the height the cups are at on the above pic but there's no pics.
I decided to teach her to do a spread she's never done one before, so I kept it at that height with full height cavaletti, she said no way, so i put cavaletti on bottom height and jump down too. She turned into it, turned away and said 'cant do that' and she was pretty adamant about it. So I jumped him over it and then she saw how small it is to jump and she had a go.

We must have been stood on a slight hill there.

It wasn't till I saw the pictures I realised how long my stirrups were, must shorten them next time.

Yeah! I love stories like this, nervous people getting braver and really enjoying riding (and jumping) I was like this years ago and so scared of jumping or even riding sometimes.

Now I have two horses and have just completed a intro course (dressage needs loads more work!) but we are getting there, it was not that long ago I was just like your friend.

Well done you for being there for her!

I don't know if you have read any of my posts about jumping, but I was terrible, and about 2 months ago things started coming together for me. Within the last 2 or 3 months I have gone from trotting over little fences terrified to cantering an intermediate class (80cm) so I can totally relate to her, which is why I've started teaching her.

I love her horses jump, and i love the fact that at 6 foot I don't look too big on him, he's only 15.2hh. I want a pony but am too big. The pics of me look awful, I find my position improves as the fences get bigger.
I love seeing people improve and knowing I helped with it
