Hi all - well all being well and hoping that my entry for next week has been accepted now that they have re-opened entries in Devon I am taking one of my colts to the Grange

So a couple of questions...

I've been looking at pictures from the other dates and there seems to be a mixture of inhand and normal bridles on the mares, is there a preferred choice?

And when do the times usually go up - I asume it will be after Friday's closing date?

Thanks - I have not done much showing before so am not looking forward to it as it all seems very intimidating!!

We had a normal bridle on our mare, and a normal foal headcoller that we put a browband on. They won't care what you have on the mare or foal just as long as it is tidy and in control.

We found out our time the Monday before the event. Not sure when they went on the web.

I was really worried as never done something like this before but they tell you everything you need to do, and give you 5 mins warning before you have to go in. They are all really friendly.
Oh and don't worry about the crowd watching you, they are just trying to pick up tips and are as worried as you.

Times will be up by Monday on the website.

Most mares tend to wear a normal bridle (snaffle not double) but an in hand showing bridle would be fine too.

What section have you put him in? Assume its karma you're taking?

Thanks Irishcobs - good to know not everyone watching will be judging and that others are as nervous as I'll be!

Sacha yes it's Kharma we're taking and he's in the dressage section, that's what Hamlet does best and all Kossette's siblings seem to be dressage orientated so it seemed the most logical!

It'll be a shock to the system for him but one way or the other it'll be a good learning experience for us both!

What's the done thing to wear for handlers? Will white polo shirts and cream jeans/trousers be ok?

Can you tell I've never done this before?!

How did you get on? we went in the ring at 9.15pm!!, making it a very long day, my friend who we travelled up with had a mare and foal in at 11 am, although we didn't have to worry about being watched, everyone had gone home!

9.15pm!! Wow that is very late - bloody long day!

The little man was very well behaved considering he'd been dragged in from the field less than 48 hours beforehand and had to be taught to lead in that time!

He got a 2nd premium which I was pleased with and didn't disgrace himself up against some very big name dressage foals so for a first attempt I couldn't complain

There should be a picture of him here http://www.saddle-up.org.uk/forums/index.php?automodule=blog&req=attach&id=2165 hopefully if I've done it right!
