Hi all, I just thought I would throw my experience of the BEF futurity this year. Vet was great and really liked my three year old colt, took him into the arena to be assessed for eventing. He performed beautifully, jumped well and I felt he really showed himself. Near the end of the evaluation they asked if he had any thoroughbred blood and what was his breeding. With that they all had a chat and asked would I mind if they put him down to be a showjumper. I agreed (although a liitle confused) to this. They awarded him a second premium. I had my score sheet that had been scribbled on and changed. It was still the eventing score sheet so I couldnt really make head or tail of what was being scored.
I do think that they were a little harsh with there scores, and felt that the money I had paid was a bit of a waste, as I was left with this scrappy bit of paper that really didnt make much sense. We were first in at Southview that day, I followed the scores and have looked at the corresponding pictures of other 3 year olds and alot of the scores were poor. They did seem to creep up as the day went on. The scores he had as a yearling at the futurity in 2011 (awarded a higher first) and the write up on his paces were really commendable. He qualified for Osberton international where the futurity champs were held and the judges could not praise his paces enough, out of the 10 yearlings enter he was awarded 3rd place. His paces remain the same as a 3 year old and he really performed well this year. So I really have to ??? his recent result. I have put a link here for the picture page http://www.equinephotoshoots.co.uk/56_054.aspx Is it just me that feels a little let down this year?? Its a lot of money and time to not even be able to read your score sheet properly!!

A friend of mine did really well with their's last year and this year he was near as damn it at the bottom of the scoring, livid doesn't describe it...

I've not been yet this year, mines coming up, so I can't comment on this years scores for me.

I did think they weren't asking the breeding as of last year though? Or has that changed again? Will have to have a look at the BEF site and see what it says about that.
