Not sure how many of you will remember I bought a little ISH mare in April. She was 4 on the 29th April, unbroken, and by Ballybane Shamrock out of a little Arab/TB (we believe) pony.

To jog your memories, this was Matilda, known as Tilly, when I went to look at her.

In this picture you can see how her front legs were splayed from the knee down due to her awfully overgrown feet that were turned under on the inside edge as she walked on them.

Horrid picture because of the sun, but you can see her bad feet. This was her first day here.

In the old saddle I used to get her used to tack.

Fast forward a few months and a disastrous time away at a breaking yard for 7 weeks (where she wasn't finished due to the breakers lack of time), I now I have Tilly back. I collected her last week and found a new person to help with the breaking. Day four of backing, these pictures were taken today..Tilly's first ever hack around the farm.

Not sure what she was doing here.....chewing the happy mouth perhaps.

I was supposed to be moving out of the camera shot!

She's changed a bit, don't you think? :D

Hi i remember you saying about her but hadn,t seen the pics, I had a ballybane shamrock that i had to have put down at 5 years old which was very sad. I bought mine aged 2 and in a terrible state why people breed them and then let them get in that state I don,t know. your mare looks super now well done mine blossemed once fed and was quick to learn so i,m sure you will enjoy Tilly I,m glad she has found a careing home.

I was hoping you'd reply as I couldn't remember who it was who'd had a Shamrock baby. I was so sorry to hear about yours when you replied to my thread after I bought her.

Tilly got roughed off and turned away due to previous owner going through a messy divorce, where the horses were held as assets. I bought her, my friend bought her dam, as he was forced to sell them in the settlement. Felt quite sorry for their owner actually.

She has changed enormously and **touches** wood has not suffered any soundness issues. My farrier was initially worried about a convexity to the inside edge of her left fore which made it look very boxy. His concern was that the lack of foot care would cause long term issues. However, I'm pleased to say that as her foot has grown out it's become apparent that she has clearly had an abscess burst out of the coronary band at some point. The hoof above the "hole/crack" blemish in her foot is now growing in nice and straight. Her lower legs are now straight from the knee down and her shoulder appears to have improved dramatically post trimming.

She is very laid back, incredibly striking in the flesh and just a good girl to have around. We have hopes that she will infact be nice enough for my daughter to take to PC next year, or the year after.

She currently only stands about 14.3hh, but there may yet be an inch or so lurking in there somewhere.

Nooo...my sons don't go near horses! LOL

His name is Jamie Punchard. Hope he doesn't mind me posting his picture on here. He's starting himself up in the schooling/breaking business and I have to say I cannot fault him AT ALL. Love the way he is going about it. He's a cracking lad. Having had the disappointment of the breaking yard I sent Tilly to not doing the job, it's been lovely to have him come to us so that I can be involved from day one.

Until Jamie came here on Wednesday I had never seen Tilly sat on, even though the previous yard did say they'd backed her...but wouldn't get on her when I asked to see the stage she was at. Hence she came home.

Jamie has just bought of a 3 year old stallion from Holland, by Lord Z, who he hopes to get on the GB jumping team with by the time he's 25 years old. (He's nearly 18). Lovely to see a young lad with such drive and ambition.

Good for him :)

My son doesn't ride at all anymore either!! Shame because he was a cracking little jockey!

Good luck to Jamie - so nice to see a young lad trying to make a name for himself :)

And good luck with that little mare - is Patches terribly jealous? LOL

I think P is nonplussed about most things, she's so laid back. ;) :D

Jamie wants me to hack P out with him on Tilly on Monday. It did make me buck my ideas up and clip her legs/mane/hairy chin. Poor mare would have looked a complete carthorse next to Tilly otherwise.

OMG she looks amazing now, like a different horse. What a good girl she is being too. When are you going to have a sit on her?

Steady on! LOL

I keep looking at my thighs and thinking "too fat".

We go away next weekend. I have decided to hold off until we get back. Just my luck I'll fall off her if I do it before we go away.

She's being as good as gold though, no bucking etc.
