Right so I backed my youngster successfully september- November he was going really sweetly in walk and trot! I slipped at the yard and broke my wrist so I threw bobs out for 5 weeks. He had ad lib hay whilst turned out. I got the all clear and he started coming in at night again on AdLib hay. He is fed 2 cups of low cal balancer and a handful of healthy tummy with his magnesium and agnus castus. So I long reined and lunged for a few days then hopped back on. He was beautifully sweet. His break had really done him some good. We went for a hack with friends and I was incredibly proud of him. The following day we had a lesson. It was good! He found things hard but didn't objects. Gave him the Monday off. Tuesday got on on the school, same as always. Rock steady. Walked on well. Then I asked for trot and bang. He ground to a halt, bucked, cow kicked and tried to rear. He kept doing it. I got off lunged he was sweet. Hopped back on did it again. I gave up.
Lunge jumped him the next day. Really sweet! Gave him the following day I hopped back on. Still bucking, cow kicking and rearing. He has been seen by the saddler this week. Fine. He's been seen by the chiro. Fine. He had dentist end of sept. I have my instructor coming tomorrow to have a look but I just wondered of anyone has had a similar situation? And if it could be a gut imbalance? If so what is the best thing to use?

My thoughts are yes it could be. Why is he on healthy tummy? If you think he needs that then he probably needs a course of omeprazole or even consider hind gut acidosis which would not be touched by the healthy tummy or omeprazole.

Can you get the saddle fit double checked? The fact that this happens only when ridden strongly suggests back pain of some form. They change shape so fast when young something that fitted one week can be massively wrong the next. Failing that ask the vet to check his back to rule out something like kissing spines. Gut imbalance would not be my first thought from your description I'm afraid.

Stomach ulcers ? My friends youngster has them and when she has a flare up is awfully behaved

Might be worth getting him scoped
