new to the forum and hope this is how it works, looking for some advice. MY ( SORRY NOT SHOUTING - CAPS LOCK JUST STUCK ON MY COMPUTER ! ) TBXID IS USUALLY LAZY AND LAID BACK , BEEN SCHOOLING TO IMPROVE PACES AND HAS BEEN REALLY PROGRESSING WELL, RECENTLY HAS STARTED GETTING STRESSED AND THROWING HEAD ABOUT GETTING QUITE UPSET WHEN ASKED TO CANTER AND REFUSING TO DO SO THEN REFUSING TO WORK PROPERLY AT ALL, IF WE RIDE THROUGH IT TROT GETS GOOD AGAIN POWERFULL FORWARD AND BALANCED BUT CANTER HAS JUST GONE OUT THE WINDOW. HAS HAD BACK, TEETH, SADDLE CHECKED TWICE, HAD A WEEK OFF IN CASE MUSCLES SORE FROM WORKING . INSTRUCTOR HELPING ME TO MAKE SURE ITS NOT ME AND HE GET LOTS OF TURNOUT AND HACKS REGULARLY AND KEEP SCHOOLING SESSIONS SHORT. HE IS GETTING FIT AND HAS ALOT MORE GO THAN HE USED TO BUT GETTING A BIT DISHEARTENED AS TRYING REALLY HARD TO DO ALL THE RIGHT THINGS AND GOING BACKWARDS. IS HE JUST OBJECTING TO WORKING AT A HIGHER LEVEL AND WILL GET BETTER AS HE BUILDS MUSCLE OR SHOULD I BACK OFF HIM . HE IS QUITE MAREISH AND CAN STROP AT THE BEST OF TIMES IF ASKED TO DO SOMETHING HE DOESNT REALLY WANT TO BUT NOT USUALLY THIS ACTIVELY. ANY IDEAS ?

Im sorry if this sounds a bit drastic, but my TB had similar problems - cantering disunited, lack of impulsion and change in his attitude (started tanking off and cow kicking). Had vet, phsio, saddle, teeth etc etc, and physio said back xrays as a last resort becuse he couldnt find anything significant.

These flagged up advanced kissing spine and they could not believe how kind he had been (at the state it was at he should have been killing me etc). He seemed to change overnight.

Hopefully this shouldnt be the case, but if you have not had xrays, i would advise just in case.

Good luck in finding out whats wrong! x

Thanks for your advice, he's been fully worked up with xrays bone scans and stuff 18/12 ago after accident and was ok then, grumpy on the lunge as well but moves ok once persuaded to move, when he actually goes into canter his canter is pretty good both on lunge and ridden, not disuniting or anything. if doesnt settle will get vet to check him over. may get saddler again too, seems to fit but there seem to be alot of posts about problems with albions and he's got one !

Sorry to latch on - but who has had problems with albion saddles?

My boy chucks his head up sometimes in canter but I think it's due to him getting fitter and not wanting to be schooled!

I'm hoping thats the problem with my boy too, but it's helpful to get other opinions. I havent had any problems with my albion, i've been pleased with it and ride much better in it but since getting one i've noticed adverse posts about them on the forum but that may be my paranoia making them leap out at me ! will get it checked again as feel I have to do everything to make sure its not physical. I am aware of his ability to try avoid hard work though !
