Every so often, I watch my horses in the field and think

(and a bit of

) when they are too close to me.

Today and yesterday my 5yo in particular has been nuts

Loads of rears, and quite often these became rear-up-hop on back legs-launch onto front legs-buck-spin....and repeat....

Can't say it makes me ever want to get on her again

. Do yours behave differently in the field compared to ridden? Obviously they are free to do what they want in the field; but I wonder if any horses are completely different ridden vs in their field. FWIW, the 5yo is a bit mental all the time

. Does it freak anyone else out when they see their horses making shapes in the field

Yes, definately. In the field Toby likes to snake his head/neck, then he rears 'black beauty' style and does huge fly bucks. Thanks goodness he never does these things when ridden!

Manni is a laid back fellow and doesn't do a lot in the field, but this last week in the snow I have seen him having a canter round and putting in a few bucks too - but only little ones. And again, he doesn't buck or anything when ridden.

My boy likes nothing more when I chuck him out to hoon flat out up across the field, bucking to his hearts content.
I actually enjoy seeing this because it means he is having fun! He has never has bucked with a rider on board and I want this trend to continue, rather he do it in the field than out on a hack!

Yes, mine is a nutter bucking, rearing, jumping about and being a fool in the field. Under saddle *touch wood* he is dead good, the worst he has done is bolt (once and had a bad back & horse overtook him which is why) and bucked (small) a few times.

Dont let what they do in the field put you off!!

Definitely, mine is Alpha male, regularly leads the escape party, brazen, fearless.... but a total wuss to hack out, even comes close to fainting on the drive he goes up and down twice a day, every day!

Mine act like loons, they love to play chase with me, reaing bucking etc.

When ridden they are good, they like their work, they take it all in their stride.

Mine certainly buck, hop, skip gallop round the field, put the younger out today for first time on grass, with no snow!!! Went v wild as did not like the snow, and had big play then ran round field soo fast she ended up jumpin the gate, lol caught her and put her back in then she rolled and settled down, had allready been on walker for and hour as well!! Rode her when I got her back in for first time in like three weeks and most of the bucks had gone out the system!! Can't wait too hunt her now just need to her to be fitter as his a 6 yr old but not done much recently due to work, and weather!!!

Mine is such a show off in the fields, so much so I wish he would look the way he does in the field as he does in the show ring, apart from throwing himself around and snorting!! But when ridden he just gets a bit gee'd up every now and then and a little spooky, but nothing terrible!

Ha Ha now this made me laugh!!

Boxers - the snake head thing totally freaks me out. What are they DOING???? Weirdos!

Glad mine aren't the only ones who get a bit above themselves in the field. I've once seen the young one rear up and rest her legs on the other one's back. Nutters.

yes daughters horse fly is a nightmare literally turns herself inside out bucking and rearing and is generally irritable.ridden shes lovley ,most of the time.

Amble...amble...eat...amble...eat...amble...eat...snooze...amble...amble...

...if another horse is excited, he'll run around with it, but he's never the instigator. If his headcollar is off and he wants to play "chase me

", then he does high-speed take-offs, stops and turns worthy of a cutting horse. And a lovely extended trot...
