I read in Eventing magazine that libby soley has been bought Pebbly aga Khan to event! Is it just me or does anyone else think this girl is spoilt, by being bought yet another, young, but ovisley good horse that someone else has produced so that she can just get on and win?!

I dont really know who Libby Soley is but if you've got the money why not have a nice horse produced for you to suceed(sp) ??

But she is only 16 and was bought the very good pony noble springbox for over 100 grand, of corse shes going to go out and win, I personaly wud rather produce a horse from the start

As I said - I didn't know who she was

I'd love to have the money to be able to buy a 100 thousand pound horses

I personally still don't mind , saying that I would love someone to produce my baby

But I do understand what you mean

Sorry but that's twaddle! If you wanted to go out and win then if someone gave you a horse to ride or brought you an amazing event horse, you wouldnt say no surely?

You can always have projects to develop on the side!

personally good luck to her if thats how she wants to do things, but id rather go out on win through my own hard work and determination

on the flip side, the horse could be the next toytown but if u cant ride its never going to work

Exactly! Its like that stupid phrase "Money does not buy you happiness." Only people who are envious of those with more money ever say it!

is shes only 16 then surely its good for her to be given something that knows what its doing?

i am insanely jelous and wish i had that kind of money!

Lucky for her, I don't think anyone could honestly say they would turn around and reject having a half decent horse bought for them.
I would love to be bought a decent horse I can just sit on and win but I am not lucky enough so like most people I have to work for results.

I'm really a huge believer in the money not buying happiness thing. I just want to graduate and earn enough to pay my bills and save, I have ambition but it isn't motivated by material things. Would choose a job that made me happy over one that made me wealthy any day of the week

As for the girl being bought a 100,000 horse - good luck to her - hell of a lot of pressure there now isn't there?

Im just saying shes spoilt and of corse shes going to do wel being bought a horse like him! unlike some peole looks like shes going to have sucess haned to her on a plate!

To be honest maybe it's not a bad idea - if she's only 16 she's probably in full time education and hardly likely to have the time to bring on a youngster to the level she is competing at. I wish my parents had had the money to buy me a ready made horse to compete whilst I was waiting for my youngster to progress through the grades.

Sounds a bit like the green eyed monster to me.

An expensive horse has to be ridden by someone with at least some talent to do well. If I got on a mega bucks horse I can assure you I would not win anything....my plate would still be empty.

Welcome to the horse world......

You need money, talent and hard work to make it, it is very rare that those people with only talent and hard work get anywhere but its all about being happy with what you have

The ones who comes across like a brat is you - yes, she gets good horses, but she still has to sit on the damn things. You don't win the European Pony Champs and get placings at 1* by riding like a pleb.

Plenty of other riders out there get given good horses, and they don't get slated! Likewise plenty of other riders have good horses and then can't get them around a track several levels beneath what the horse has been winning/placing at.

hmm, not necessarily, she's still got to be able to ride it. there are plenty of very expensive horses that change hands every year and don't go as well for their new rider.
i wish i had someone to spend that much money on horses for me, i must say.
i love producing them though... what i'd really love is a megabucks youngster that absolutely oozes potential though, personally i'd rather have one or two of those than a made horse with all the pressure that goes with it.

I met Libby at weston park last year. She came across as extremely nice, not spoilt and was so nervous before the SJ on noble Springbock, she was almost in tears. Good luck to her.

its far easier to look like a good rider if you have a talented ready made horse that can do his job well.

I would definitely not miss the opportunity to have one if some was offering to buy it.
A good easy talented horse can really help a rider to improve.

I wish I had been able to buy a really good grade A show jumper for my daughter instead of the grade B I had to buy that put in the occasional dirty stops.
I think it ruined her confidence in the long run.

Its a bit like Jordan (aka Katie Price) buying in a fabulous horse to compete on - a bit unfair in a way when its for a (basically) talentless adult. No problem with say, Piggy French or Matt Ryan having a horse worth thousands

Perhaps its ok to buy kids ready made horses and ponies if you can afford it.
It gives them, the taste for success and is motivating, rather than constantly being defeated or demoralised.

Why is that unfair?

If you want to compete succesfully, you buy the best horse you can. Piggy French has some real 'money' horses to ride, but thats fair because she's a pro? Well, she didn't become a pro by sitting on crap.

QR - its a pain that the world is not equal, but naming and slating on a public forum is not good form. I would be mortified to read this is I were her. Shame on you

who says she is talentless? She has ridden horses for most of her life.... i think its unfair for any1 on here to claim she is talentless...

Jealous?

I think this is a really silly thread! I don't see a problem at all with her having an expensive horse bought for her. She must be able to ride and be fairly good for her to have had one bought for her in the first place surely?

This is one of the things I dislike about the horse world and it is this insane jealousy of people who do better than they do.

I have friends who have just started on Novice level and I am thrilled for them. It takes a huge amount of hard work and dedication and I would never dream of belittling their hard work. It gives me something to aspire to in all honesty.

Spit out those sour grapes!

As a parent I always tried to buy the best I could for my kids, though obviously not that sort of league!
Having a schoolmaster leads you on to better things, if you have already been round a level on a good experienced horse you are then in a better postion to ride a youngster round.
We produce all our horses ourselves and yes, it does make you a better rider, but given the chance I'd far rather send my daughter round her first high level event on a schoolmaster than one she's done from scratch, as both have to adapt to the higher level not just one of them.
Sadly the one who is coming across as a spoilt brat isn't this rider, it's the green eyed monster having a bitch about her..
