hi i have a belgian warmblood x tb stallion and they are very good at show jumping but it does depend on there breeding also make sure it is fast as our stallion is lazy and does spend alot of time inthe air which sometimes doesnt do him any favours never mind if i were u i would always get a 5 stage then you kow everything

For the vetting it depends what you want to use the horse for, if you only plan to do local riding club/pc events then a two star would probably be enough but make sure you take an experienced person with you to thoroughly look the horse over for any signs of old injuries, conformation faults, soundness etc. If you'd like to compete higher or money is no option! then by all means go for 5 star if that puts your mind at rest, it's all about how confident you are at assessing the horse. And ask the vendor loads of questions!

Best horse I ever had was Liam my Belgium Warmblood. At 4 years old I used to escort the spooky horses out as he was so reliable and unflappable. He loved his showjumping and a friend did pretty well with him. He also did a little bit of dressage and some affiliated Eventing (although he always got time penalties), we went to sponsored rides and all sorts. Im 5ft 2inch and he grew to about 17.1hh yet never did he give me any cause for concern. I still miss him now ... 3 years after having to have him PTS.

Edited to add: Not sure about living out. He did like his warm rugs but tbh most horses can live out if managed properly. Also he didnt need a huge amount of feed cos he was a good doer.

As for vetting ... as said previously it depends on what you want to do - have a word with your vet.
I would def. consider buying another one, if I ever had the money or the chance.

I have a belgian wb x tb. She is a super horse, although a little spooky, but think that is more the TB in her. She lived out the winter before I got her, at her previous home and she was fine. As long as they are rugged and fed well any horse can live out. Alisha is a super SJ, has a nice clean jump and doesn't like to touch a pole. I would definately have another warmblood if I was looking. Also, definately get a five stage vetting if you want to showjump. Good luck trying the horse

I have one, and he's a fantastic jumper, but not a novice ride. They can be quite sharp, especially as the modern types have more thoroughbred in them. They are known for their jumping and dressage talent, and many people are now buying the lighter-weight ones for eventing.

Obviously, this is a huge generalisation and I'm sure there are many Belgian Warmbloods out there who can't jump a stick!

As for living out, mine doesn't as he's clipped out and in work most of the time, so he just goes out during the day. He would happily live out though if I left his fur on, rugged him up well, and he had a shelter and lots of hay and food. In fact, he would love it as he weaves and doesn't really like being in the stable!

But again, that's just him. I have another warmblood (a Hanovarian) who doesn't like being out for too long, has a very fine coat, and hates the rain!

I have one - he's in the picture shown.

He is defintely the best horse ever. I bought him to teach me to jump round British Novice tracks 7yrs ago and finished up jumping Newcomers and eventing to Novice level. Very cheap and easy to keep and an absolute gentleman. He gets bored with dressage though and likes to jump in his own fashion.

Although I kept him in at night I am sure he would have been just as happy out 24/7 with the right rugs.

Belgian warmblood mare i ride is 18hh and is fabulous!! she jumps HUGE (currently loose scholing 5ft) and she loves cross country but she doesn't seem to like flatwork so she doesn't do dressage but has a lot of oomph for jumping! She is stabled at night and turned out for a few hours during the day then brought in for excersise and then stabled.

i have one full bred and one BWB x irish.

They are both the best horses ive ever had.

They are laid back, dreams to own, both jump fantastic.
I would only ever have a belgium now.

They eat alot when young though! and might need a heating feed
