I've been lucky enough to borrow an energiser it a Hotline Super Hobby 0.56J 12 Volt Fence Energiser. My cheeky cob is a sod for running through the fencing despite having a massive pile of hay. Anyway I'm wondering will this energiser give him enough of a belt. Once he's knows electric is on he does respect it, or do I need to invest in one with a better joule rating? New to all the energiser stuff so any advice greatly received. X

I read the title and thought you ment the energiser had a belt... like a cam belt or fan belt oppps :o

I'd have thought once he knows its on he won't be as keen to run through it, although if mine decides he wants to go through it and he knows its on he just takes a big runn up to it and ploughs his way through till it breaks or just jumps over it

Haha yes not very worded but I know I get an awful belt off it lol. No lucky once he knows electric is on he won't run through it but he needs a really belt off it first before he respects it!!! It sounds cruel I know but it's the only way to stop him doing it. Haha aww that would drive me mad lol!!! Lucky he's too lazy to put the effort in to jump it!!! X

With a newly charged battery yes he will get a decent shock but make sure the battery stays topped up as he could well be one of the clever ones who tests the fence occasionally to make sure it does still bite!

Its not cruel I don't think, they soon learn not to touch it... although when i was talking/moaning to my dad about my fence being broken yet again he suggested i tie carrots to it so when the pony went to eat them he got a shock, now that i think is a bit extreme. Obviously I didn't try that

Oh thanks crabbymare, Ill bare that in mind. I usually have a spare on stand by ready to go on if the other seems flat. But yes no doubt he will be one of the clever ones, when it comes to things like this...!!! X

Haha that sounds like something my other half would say!!! Might stop u going through so many carrots ;) yeh he's pretty good when its on!! But it's been off for a couple of days n he's already starting to test it!! So back on once I can get the energiser off my friend. No doubt hell be through the fence before then!!! X

Just going through this scenario, lots of help on the Internet from the various manufacturers.
We originally got a 2 joule unit, read up on it, then upgraded to an output of 4 joules, its a mains type.
We have typical white fence tape, (apparently the plain wire delivers a stronger zap)
Investing in a fence tester is a good idea!
Good luck! Time and patience setting up and testing will be well rewarded, I hope.
