Congratulations again to Ben Maher and the amazing Rolette. They were placed in the biggest prize money grand prix in America and won a cool $50,000... not bad for a days work!! It was an invitational class with 40 riders, had three rounds and as you can imagine the last round was an up to height, whopping 1.60!
Needless to say, this partenship is well in contention for this years olympics!

Oh hip hip hurray for little Ben or rather 'chemical kid ' as hes known on the circuit - lovely lad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read into this as you may!!!! allyou know it alls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good for him. however much as i like him there is no chance of him getting on a team in front of the whittakers, sskeltons and smiths of the world. pity.

I wouldn't have thought he had any chance of getting on the Olympic team. Too many better combinations in front of him.

Very well done to him

exactly.

Very glad that he's doing well...he's a nice rider, and deserves it.....but getting on the Olympic team this year !? No chance i'm afraid......

Well I think that current form counts. As good as the whitakers are its only Michael that has been out on Portifino, as far as i'm aware Peppermill and Lacarno haven't been out this year. Not only did Ben jump double clear in the nations cup, been placed in grand prixs, they have the added advantage that Rolette is a blood horse and now used to the climate.
He is on the team for the first super league nations cup, and I wish him all the best for if he does well surely they can't ignore him!

Out of interest, does anyone know how Locarno is? I remember Ellen at olympia saying he was lame and would be having a few months off, is still the case or is he just being saved for the big occasions?

Good old Ben. Pleased to see him out there and doing sooooo well!
I heard that he won more money in America in that one Grand Prix class coming 5th than Robert won winning the British Open (and having to compete his horse hard over the whole show to score enough points).
And talking of Olympic selection it wouldn't have done him any harm to compete Rolette in a hot county this year - shows that she can handle the heat and still perform!
Congratulations Ben, keep your head down and keep working, you never know when the selectors eye will turn to you!!

Careful now..we must only post nice things..
I dont reckon he'll get to the olympics this year. It'll be all whitakers or mostly anyway..

Well so we should only post nice things, if you haven't got any thing nice to say (or in this case wright) don't say anything at all!!!
I'm sure that Ben came 4th, but yes it goes to show you the difference in prize money. Lets hope one day Britain has the backing that America has, then at least that way we wouldn't have to sell our good horses!

Apologies, never meant anything bad. I think Ben is a brilliant young rider and one I follow. I was intending to show my support for him.
I was trying to demonstrate how clever (i think) Ben has been in gaining competition experience on a very competitive circuit (in an Olympic year) and in a hotter climate. Also he isn't pushing his top horse too hard in a competition like the Brit Open when they have to jump the horses hard every day to win the same money that Ben achieved in one class in the USA.
Again may I reiterate to you that I support Ben and I think you may have misinterpreted what I was trying to say.
All positive support here!!!

I think any combination that shows form from now onwards may have a chance of making the team as there will be riders and owners looking at the journey and conditions and asking themselves if it will be right for them and their horses. In the past there have been some great horses that have never performed as well after the olympics in testing conditions (ie Seoul olympics) and now days it is more about the money.
The only person who has really put their hat into the ring is Tim Stockdale and if the horse stays fit would be a good choice. Michael would be an automatic choice as he is so consistant and has a good string of horses. Robert has had some good results. So there is possibly 2 or 3 places up for grabs.

Your forgiven Helbert!! Although I agree Tim Stockdale has proven himself throughout the winter, he is yet to jump outdoors. As for Robert if your refuring to Whitaker, I doubt will be in the running for his horse is not a super league horse as he mentioned in horse and hound. I definatley think John and Michael will go then I think its between Tim, Ben and Ellen.
