I need some help helga is *locking* her neck when i am asking for bend and becomes faster in canter like she is running throw my hand.

I can get it after about 30 mins but that no good really when she has always been fine at bending maybe not the best but not bad.

Shes having her back checked today and has it done ever 6 months, her teeth havnt long been done and tack look fine.

I know there prob something i doing but some advise would be a great.

Thanks

It sounds like she needs the physio - wait until the physio has been tonight and see what they say. Also they might be abe to suggest some exercise to do with her before you get on.

I do 'carrot stretches' with both mine before i ride. Stand at her shoulder holding a carrot, so she has to bend her neck round to reach it. Dont let her walk back, she must flex through her neck. Do it twice on each side, but one side then the other, not twice then twice if you see what i mean!

I agree to get her checked out physically first. If her back is ok and you think it's a schooling / resistence issue you may be using too much hand and not enough inside leg. How do you ask for bend? Inside leg for her to bend around, inside hip forward for direction, outside leg slightly back to stop quarters swinging out, flexion to the inside and in that order. If you ask for the flexion without the inside leg you lose the impulsion and she will "dump" on your inside rein or poke her head to the outside.

The same thing goes for canter, if she is not on your outside rein and has dumped herself on her forehand she will run around rather than engage in canter. An exercise to try, ride an 8m volte in trot, making absolutely sure she is on your outside rein from the inside leg, if she's halt turn on the forehand either full turn or half turn, come back to the 8m trot volte on the left rein and again look for inside leg/outside hand connection. Once you have it ask for canter and bingo you should get a nice soft canter. If she leans or runs, go back to basics, trot, rebalance, volte, & canter. Good luck

The volte is a very small circle that is used in the training of a horse. Commonly circles under 10m are referred to as volte. Of all the circles, it requires the most balance from the horse as they need to step under and engage the inside hind leg.

Size of a volte will vary between horses, based on their stride length and their training. The accepted diameter for the volte, when used in dressage competition, is 6 meters.

Bloomin 'eck, Im gonna try that tomorrow. You must be a diva

thanks everyone going to try all this to night.
back man said that she was fine didnt need anything doing to her and that she was looking well. I lunged her last night in the pessoa and she was fine bending and all that.

Going to try them circles to night was going to take her dressage on sunday but there no way i can take her the way she is going. Might take her for a hack somewere because she might be just getting really bored now and thats why she is fighting me.

Thanks you all so much for all your help will tell you how i get on.
