Bending the arms of a fulmer snaffle

Just wondering whether it is possible to bend the upper arms of a stainless steel fulmer snaffle so they point further away from the face.

I was thinking of using a hammer - would this work or do you think it would snap the bit? Would it help to heat the metal?

Has anyone else tried this before?!

Why do you want to. I'd be very worried they would catch you or someone else in the face.

Old fulmers were made with the tips of the upper arm angled out slightly to prevent them rubbing the horse's face..just wondering if I could do the same on my bit!

Get your farrier to do it if you have one but the metal will be discoloured afterwards.

I always thought the bent one went at the bottom but I know what you mean. My Myler has one poky out one and one straight one.

The farrier can probably do it.
