Which balancers do you all use?

It was suggested to me, I start feeding my girl this. She is currently on happy hoof only. Vet and pysio have both said that her body is more like a four year olds in term of condition. This is due to incorrect groundwork and backing as a youngster (not by me).

I know that excercise is going to make the most difference, but I feel a balancer would also help to make sure she is getting the right vits and mins.

She is a good doer, so do not want a weight gaining feed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I used to feed Dodson and Horrell Ultimate Balancer but it was quite expensive about £35, then a friend suggested I swap to Dodson and Horrell Suregrow to feed as a balancer, they had spoken to one of their reps who said it was practically the same ingredients as the ultimate balancer. I checked out the ingredients on their website and yes bar 1 ingredient and 1% difference in protein levels it it exactly the same feed, but Suregrow only costs about £14 per bag. Feed it at same ratio you would a balancer, which you can check out on their website, just put in weight of your horse and it will calculate it for you, but put that in on the Ultimate Balancer part of the website to get the stats right.

I have used both top spec comprehensive and baileys low cal. The top spec put a lil weight on but not too much. The baileys didn't contribute to any weight gain. Both have my horse plenty of energy for work, excellent coat shine and overall condition. If you're worried about weight I would suggest the baileys to start with. I did notice top line with the baileys but that's probably the work which has given him to be honest.

I use top spec lite - doesnt put on any weight and seems to have improved his stamina and overall condition (hunts off it) - however, the lite ones are designed for good doers who dont need protein to build muscle so best ring the helpline (topspec one is very good) to see which one would be right for you.

Used to use blue chip pro, found a website comparing all the balancers on Market and what's in them and Top Spec came out the best so changed to that. I posted a link to website so if you interested look back in my posts and you should see it. My 4 year old is on Top Spec and it does not send him bonkers at all :-)

Please read this thread as an idea to commercial balancers

Those saying Baileys lo cal doesnt put weight on - are you aware its got mollasses in it? Even though its recommended for lamis.....

OP the best thing you can do is to have your forage analysed so that you are feeding only what your horse is lacking in her diet, not over dosing her on stuff she already has in her system, or giving her irritants which are present in these general balancers.
