I have to ride a very very strong horse, and a big horse too. He leans on you and tries to tank off with you. Any advice on a good bit. I am thinking some kind of Waterford gag, if there is such a thing?
My boy is in a snaffle and is lovely to ride but when he goes xc he gets really strong and he is a very big horse and pulls so i use a tom thumb which works a treat - i have no problem at all with him pulling in it now.
As KatB suggests a waterford universal with a curb is a good one. Other I have found very very helpful on a horse who leans is the Neue Schule Elevator with a tranz lozenge. I am a little cynical about some of the claims made for bits etc but can honestly say this one does exactly what it say on the tin. It does also come with a waterford mouthpiece and think they call that one the jumper. Not cheap but works.
I used a bit called a Magic Bit for a horse which leaned. It was like a straight bar snaffle with with a port - if that makes any sense.
My instructor recommened it and told me that it was originally developed for small ponies which leaned and when I bought it a few year ago it only came in pretty small sized although I am sure I have seen it in 'horse' sizes recently.
