As title, my friends' cob has quite a narrow jaw, a big fat tongue and a very low palate.I thought perhaps something like a Sprenger training bit rather than something jointed. Any thoughts on this please?
something with a thin mouthpiece, i think.
the sprenger training bit has a lozenge and two joints, if it's the one i think you mean. lovely bit, i use mine a lot and horses really like it.
you could try a kk correction bit, which is ported but not jointed, and dr legal, but i've got 1 and no horse has ever liked it tbh!
it depends how he goes, and what sort of action he's likely to respond well to... very hard to advise, sorry!
It's the correction bit I'm thinking of with the wide port. I had a look in this horses' mouth today after watching her ridden and her tongue fills her mouth right up to the palate, she is ridden in an eggbutt French link and a flash, I was told she opens her mouth to evade. I bet she does I told my friend, we are good friends so she doesn't mind my bluntness, which is why I thought I'd cast around and try to find something more suitable. The horse is used for PC stuff.
I have a mare with a very fleshy mouth and have tried lots of things and have found the Neue Schule Verbindend bit to suit her the best, she has the thinner mouthpiece one.
She would lean alot (been drawreined in the past) and this lightens her forehand too.
I had a horse with a very fleshy mouth and I used to ride him in a loose ring french link bradoon as it allowed for a lot of room, the horse really went well in it.
