Best bit for fleshy mouth?

The only thing that concerns me with the Pelham is that she's only been ridden in a snaffle.

Interesting about the myler.. Will look at that curved snaffle now and the NS losenge

A Pelham is only as hard as the hand on the rein, like any bit. Remember you can rent bits too so maybe that is the way to go until you find a suitable one.

my mare has a fleshy mouth and a small pony head, I use a hanging cheek with a thinner mouth piece and a french link (I also have a copper french link bradoon that she loves)

if the bit is too thick she gets very uncomfortable, with a thinner one she's much happier. She doesn't have the space for straigh bars or thicker mouthpieces

I do regularly have a good look to see how it's lying in her mouth and to make sure it's fitting properly

I use a thin french link snaffle. Is it called a JP or something? Can't remember, it is really skinny. My mare has a big tongue and fleshy gums and lets me know very quickly if shes not happy. In a pelham we were just vertical!

I've used a PeeWee very successfully on a Clydie and an IDx ( and lent it to a friend whose horse liked it too).
I'm currently riding my Westphalian Draft horse (who has the biggest head I've ever seen) in a NS Universal. Neither of these is dressage legal.
She also has a NS Tranz for schooling, which is dressage legal.

Both of my boy's have fleshy mouths and one has a very fleshy tongue - our EDT said it was the biggest tongue he had ever seen! We have had quite a lot of trouble finding a suitable bit for the one with the fleshy tongue as most bits tend to be too wide and don't allow him enough room for his tongue. He is currently going very well in a Neue Schule Universal Gag as the bit is shaped to fit the mouth and to wrap around the tongue, rather than to press against it. My other boy has big fleshy lips and is very happy in his loose ring french link snaffle. :) I use bit guards with both of the bits to prevent any pinching, etc.
