Best bit for horse with Fleshy tongue.

Hi all , looking for some recomendations..

Had dentist up the other day & poor chap had minimal lateral movement in lower jaw - all sorted now thankfully.
Dentist said he has a very fleshy tongue - currently he is ridden in a full cheek fulmer - would there be a bit that may suit him better?? he does at times toss his head a good bit during schooling so looking for something that may be more comfortable for him.

Had similar issues with my irish girl a few years ago, she was connie x draught and dentist said the same. A low port Myler snaffle did the trick with her.....I hope your issue is as easy to solve!

Neue Schule make different thicknesses of bits. My Draft mare who has the fleshiest tongue ever has a 14mm Universal and a Tranz for schooling. I also have PeeWee which suited both a Clydesdale and a ID.

My cob has an extremely small mouth and a fleshy tongue. He also used to toss his head around and snatch at the reins. After trying several different bits the only thing that helped was to go bitless!

I'd recommend a Myler - my mare is has a fleshy tongue and a small mouth and she goes well in hers.

Bombers happy tongue, couldn't believe the difference in my D stallion who had a massive fleshy tongue and very small mouth, expensive but worth it and available to trial from the horse bit bank

I use a PeeWee bit, my TB has a small mouth and fleshy tongue, it is the only bit he will accept now.

Have had good results with both the Myler comfort snaffles and a PeeWee bit. Depends if it needs to be dressage legal, if so, go for the Myler.

peewee-but I'm not bothered about being dressage legal. its a useful bit of kit though IMO.

My ISH has a huge tongue and is much happier in his Neue Schule Universal bit. This is a gag bit but if you wanted a snaffle I would suggest the NS Tranz-angled lozenge or the NS Verbindend. Fantastic bits! Although if the tongue is REALLY big nothing will be suitable and then you might want to consider trying a Hackamore!

Having tried all manner of ported, jointed and curved and thin bits ....I found a Micklem bridle the answer, with a full cheek Jeffries revolver snaffle.
It took four years to discover this'.
No mouth or dental problems, just not a lot of room...

I have an ID x TB with a fleshy tongue. I ride in two bits (not at the same time!) a thin NS Verbindend and a Myler Kimblewick. I trialed both bits first before buying.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but my Connie with a low palate goes best in a thin Wilkie snaffle

Mine is happy in either the Myler comfort( breakthrough!) or in the NS team up, 14mm. I've also got her in the Micklem bridle now and she's 100% better in this combination. I'd be interested in trying the Verbindend though.
