My mare salivates a lot when being schooled. I worry that it's because she can't move her tongue to swallow so wanted to try something that allows more freedom. Thank you for your help.
Is it actually that she can't move her tongue? She might just be accepting the bit and therefore producing the necessary saliva. However, is it the fact that her tongue is too big for the bit? She might do well with a french link if she is in a single jointed.
She does sound like she could do well with a bit with a port.
However, I think your first call should be to Elaine, your mare sounds like a perfect candidate!
Thank you Winterwood. That was the bit I had in mind, might be able to borrow one from a friend but if not I'll definitely look into that link, thank you.
Go for the NS verbindend if she is used to the NS starter - it has angled arms so is shaped over the tongue very nicely. My big fleshy mouthed WB has one and it is a super bit. Comes in 2 different widths so if she has a very fleshy tongue go with the 12mm mouthpiece
