A few days ago by beloved Mountain Horse blouson unfortunately broke on me, the zip won't do up any more! And if I get it to do up it pops open again. :( Not so good when I work at a kennels and have to walk dogs round a freezing field numerous times a day. But this coat has lasted me about 10 years so I'm not really complaining!

So this means I need to buy a new one. I want one just like it. Mountain Horse don't seem to do one the same any more. It is a navy blouson, waterproof or at least a decent shower proof, fleece lined inside apart from the arms and padded so it's pretty warm, not a lightweight thin thing.

If anyone could recommend a good blouson for me that would be fantastic. I need one asap for work and riding. I paid probably about £100 for the broken one but would prefer something not that expensive unless it's going to last 10 years!

I can offer you homemade rock cakes for replies! :D

Might not be as good as the Mountain Horse but I've got a couple of the navy Loveson ones, fleecey inside and in the pockets, but not the sleeves. Was only £30 and lasted a couple of winters now! Think it may be the Hickstead one.

Also got a Musto that was £70 and pretty similar to the Loveson but quite sturdy and is on at least its 3rd winter. Not as bulky as the Loveson and probably better in the rain but not necessarily as warm perhaps.

Have a Bronte (possibly) and that has lasted FOREVER. Not sure how widely available they are now though.

Have a John Whitaker one too but think they are fairly pricey for what they are.

I had a mountain horse one similar to the one your decsribing that I loves, the zip went and I got it replaced but then it just started to look too grubby. I still use it occasionally though. The only one that I have found matched up is the Mark todd Blouson

I ahve had the grey and pink one for coming up to 6 years now, being pretty much everyday for riding, walking dogs, mucking out, working at the shelter ect had no problems with it

If you love the jacket that much & apart from the zip there's not much wrong with it why not take it into a dry cleaners & ask them to put a new zip in it for you. It may cost you £20? but it will be cheaper than buying a new one. ;)

I thought about a new zip.. But it's pretty grubby and has holes in the pockets so I have pony nuts lining the inside of my coat! I don't know if it'd be worth it... I do love it a lot and I don't think anything would be the same! I'm a bit biased against the Mark Todd ones, not sure why though, I'm sure they're perfectly good as so many people have them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look at them all and see if I can find any in the local tack shops to look at properly!

Musto snugs blouson. Only one I will wear, mines ancient and has the tops of socks as sleeve ends from where they had been chewed/caught on things etc :D

So comfy and warm! I don't know how expensive they are to buy new now though...

Got to be the Musto for me too. I reckon mine is 10 years old. Musto have an outlet store at Bicester Village in Oxfordshire. If you don't mind what colour you get the can be as cheap as £35 there (normally £100ish). Bargainous!!! :D

I have a shires one - waterproof, fleece lined. It's last well as I've had it a few years, kept me warm and dry. Sadly though I ripped it recently so think it's time to buy a new one.

Another vote for Musto Snug. Daughter also works in a kennels. Although they are up around £100 if you don't find one in the sales, they are very durable and very warm. Did try a cheaper make once but tbh found it a false economy.
