I am sure this has been done before, but I would really appreciate some help - Ollie is really scared of being clipped, he has very sensitive skin so I think the big heavyweight clippers are really unpleasant for him. He hates the noise too.

He needs a full clip (not legs) a couple of times a year and is a sensitive-skinned Selle Francais with a fine coat.

What are the best clippers to get? The Avalon ones seem good and pretty cheap?

I have the avalons and they are fine for my horse - a CB. I do a hunter on him.

They are lightweight, easy to use and last about 3 hrs ish clipping time. Very quiet and low vibration.

My horse is normally ok with any clippers - I just bought these were also going to be used on the anglo, but he isnt in enough work this year for a clip. He has VERY soft sensitive skin although not nervous.

I was told that they had a problem with over heating. But saying that, I clipped some ones horse with them once and they were fine!

I do love my Harmony ones though and yes, low vibrations (oh er missus!!

Mine dont overheat - but then I only do a dozen or so strokes and then stop to oil them.

I read somewhere (maybe peasridge?) that the avalons were a bit more heavy duty than the harmony but I think that was motor speed or something but otherwise very similar in terms of noise and vibrations. As my CB is basically a bear I decided to go with these. I think the avalons are cheapr as well (mine were about £170).

Havent tried the Harmony ones, but think they are more popular.

Another vote for Wahl Avalons

When I bought Donkey she was clipper phobic - still is with loud clippers. 3 winters on all I do is tie her up and clip, including her head - never had a problem with them.

I have the Avalons - got them as Peasridge recommended them so highly - they were the best in the cordless group (and they were cheaper!

They are very quiet, low vibration compared to many and very easy to use (I've done my first clipping with them and had no disasters!). Ronnie however is very ticklish on his shoulder and can't cope with any clippers there. Not even these!

Oh, and mine haven't overheated yet - they have got warm but not hot, but I'm very careful about oiling them and I haven't done a full clip, only bits and bobs to practice.

Another Avelon user.Got them cos daughters pony hated usual electric clippers. We even managed to get half her face off with these, stood fairly quietly.
Haven't found they get too hot (yet)
had them 3yrs + now and still ok

definatly livery man harmony clippers. they are fab!! £100. battery pack ones so you dont have to worry about a wire rapping round legs lol. they work wonder on my ex race tb who would sit on the floor with the sound of the great big industrial ones!!
