I've had a few quotes for getting an arena put in but I am quite keen to hear other people's experiences, good and bad, of having an arena built by a company or contractor. If you have recommendations, please do tell!

We used Bill Kear (Surrey) and were very happy with the result. Having got several quotes, when you looked at the detail the cheaper ones weren't comprehensive quotes, so could have worked out much more expensive in the end. The only complaint we had was from our neighbours (who complain about everything!). They didn't like the noise of the digger and said the contractors started too early in the morning so they couldn't have a lie in.

Kenward Contractors just did ours, started using it last week but alas typically we need a downpour to bed it in (rubber and sand) whilst at the same time dont want the rain as the fields are great at the moment!

Charles Britton did ours and neighbours over 10 yrs ago and we were 100% satisfed with the service. Weren't the cheapest but you do get what you pay for and I haven't seen a much better arenas than ours. We have never had even the smallest of puddles and we are on clay - the drainage and surface is excellent.

Whereabouts are you. I know someone reliable and good price in Cambridgeshire.

I was also going to recommend KLH Arenas.
He will build you a fab Arena and won't rip you off. And don't be out off by him being Yorkshire based... He will travel anywhere with his equipment.
He is brilliant at the groundworks and sources quality materials - he has a website.
He has been building Arenas for a very long time.
Ours is like the Derby bank at one corner (dug into the hillside), and the locals were convinced it would slip. 12 years later, and a major repair by Keith following deal flooding off the moors 3 years ago, it's riding better than ever.
Would recommend him to everyone

We used Bill Kear (we're in Hampshire) and very pleased with it. They were professional and the guys building the arena was a pleasure to have around.:) I also taught at a riding school who had a Kear arena and it stood up to the rigours of riding school life very well!

Sorry, just seen your response to me. His name is Gareth Noble - he lives in Haverhill. Part of his business is designing and building meneges from start to finish and gallops. If you want his number, let me know and I'll PM it through. I do know he is very busy at the moment but it wouldn't hurt phoning him though.

I first used KLH 10 years ago, when we moved house I used them again. Keith is first and foremost a groundworks man. With arenas if you get the drainage right then that's the most important thing.

I'm 15 mins W of Duxford if you want to see mine.
