As title!
I have a horse on loan that I will be hacking out 2/3 times a week on toll rides- limited road work.
I was quoted £400 from NFU for 10yr old TB. This seems very steep. I would not need vets cover just PL and straying ins.

Can I join BHS and get free cover as they used to offer?
Any tips gratefully accepted!

ill be wacthing this thread with interest as mine is due for renawal and was about £100 a year for 2 horses

BHS Gold membership provides this (cost £55, but of course there's other benefits too!).

This saved £66 on my NFU insurance, which was the cost of the PL part.

BHS, personal accident and 3rd party cover on ANY horse you ride or handle/care for so long as you have the owners permission, it's through SEIB.

I also use the BHS you will be unlikely to find a private insurance company who can beat their prices for the same level of cover as they are able to negotiate a massive discount as they cover so many people. WHW also offer a similar policy.

BHS provide personal accident cover and a free legal helpline as part of the price so it really is a fab deal. There are discounts if several members of the same family are members too.

You get a pretty decent magazine six times a year and all the other member benefits too.

Personally I struggle to think of any reason why you wouldn't join if you do any riding other than in a riding school or in the course of your employment. It is excellent value for money.

The public liability policy is underwritten by Brit Insurance.

KBIS (British Equestrian Insurance) seems very reasonable for legal liability insurance cover - just Google KBIS and their details should come up. I was paying just under £6 per month for this, although it may differ slightly with your personal requirements etc.

If you mean public liability cover then that is £72 a year. Nearly as much as I pay to the BHS for both my husband and I which also includes personal accident cover and other benefits.

So KBIS are actually pretty expensive!

I should add that the BHS are a registered charity too. You are able to gift aid your subscription to further support them. The insurance is included with the membership it doesn't cost extra and your subs will also help support horse welfare, and campaigning as well as the rights of way dept etc.

Makes them extremely good value IMHO.

Ah yes, I see what you mean. Just thought around £6 per month was fairly good as the liability limit was £1 million!
