Best control head collars

Hi, I’m looking for recommendations on control head collars. I have a lovely 18month old colt who is very well behaved in general, but when he gets excited by something like a horse in the next field having a run around he is very hard to keep hold of when turning out/bringing in. I’d like to start doing the odd bit of in hand work with him only basic leading and learning not to be in my space all the time, as he is a big boy standing at 16 hands already and don’t want him to be lacking in manners. At the moment I just have him in a standard head collar. I want something that will apply a bit more pressure when he tries to cart me off but isn’t severe as he doesn’t need that, I just want him to remember I am on the end of the rope. Recommendations appreciated. Thank you

An old fashioned rope halter, like a cow halter, has always worked extremely well for me.

An extra long lead rope can be useful too. I have a 12 foot one that gives you room to be safe & still have a bit of control.

I had great success with a dually. You can stick it in the normal ring but when needed on the controller ring.

i use a rope halter day to day and love it, it just gives me just a bit more. to load i use a dually again it just gives me a bit more. my boy is 17.2 and i find a normal headcollar just a bit too weak
