Ive got a horse who usually responds well to simple pressure release for loading, however last week it took some time to load her as just couldnt be bothered! I had a rope halter which I tried but it just kept slipping down and got in the way.

I need something a little more refined so can anyone recommend a good pressure release one please? Ive seen the "be nice" one but its quite pricey if it doesnt work. Thanks!

The 'be nice' one works well but can be pretty severe. You can find them second hand on eBay etc. I got one for £15.

What sort of rope halter are you using?

A proper one should tighten around the nose if the pony pulls and is generally my go to for a tricky loader.

I know this isn't a halter, but I use a chifney as a last resort for loading when a bridle doesn't work. I have a particularly difficult horse though who does not respect a halter, only when he feels like it will he go in my box with it.
I tried the softly approach which had no effect. I am not saying that a chifney is the answer for every horse, but it has taken the stress out of 'will he load today' for me.

I use the Richard Maxwell rope halter but like you, had slipping issues, now i use a normal headcollar underneath and put the rope noseband above the normal noseband, this has totally solved the problem and makes it effective once again
