Ant thoughts please on types, materials etc? Don't say fleece though,I have one and it doesn't work.
Thanks

I think thermatex's are the best for drying off a horse, they are fab at wicking away moisture. The standard weight would be too hot for the summer though but then if it was too hot for the rug i would just walk the horse until it dryed anyway.

You can get them in lightweight (no filling i think) but ive never used them.

I use different ones for different times of year.

Thermatex is fabulous for clipped horses in winter, I find the Rambo cooler good for after lessons, travelling etc the rest of the year.

When exactly are you having trouble cooling?

Not having any trouble at all, just don't have a good one and need her dry after riding late at night so I can slip her rain sheet on before putting her out and quickly get home. :)

Thermatex are great but I have a Mark Todd now (and one for the dog ;) ) and find it an excellent substitute for a fraction of the price. It's held up well, even being used occasionally as a day rug.

Both of mine came in soaking and shivering this morning so I put their rugs on to dry them off - one a Thermatex and one a Mark Todd Coolex. An hour later the one in the Thermatex was bone dry and the one in the Mark Todd was still damp in patches and steaming. It could be something to do with different body temperatures but IMO you can't beat a Thermatex :-)

Sorry to threadjack TarrSteps, where did you get your MT one? Looked around on the internet and couldn't find any for less than £110?

In that case how about investing in a breathable rainsheet? Let her dry under that. It's the same thing and will do two jobs with one rug.

Bucas do some good ones.

Another vote for thermatex, they maybe pricey to start with but they last for YEARS. Mine is certainly older then my horses and it was given to me! Cannot be beaten!!

Another vote for Thermatex. Hot and sweaty horse soon becomes a dry horse in a rug that is damp on the outside. Very clever design.

Cheers everyone, and thanks Persephone for the suggestions, but sometimes I like to put her in a Prem Eq 100g at night (Tb who feels the cold and I've just bought her the rugging system in the sales), so I'd like a cooler just fit for purpose. I think I'm looking at a thermatex after reading all the responses. I'll start another thread for further q's about those speciically after doing a search first:)

Just a quick update - I got a thermatex - fab ...... and Persephone, couldn't help it after some thought I also took your advice and got a breathable cooler (in the current sale at Premier Equine £35):)
Thanks for the advice guys

Best one I've used is amigo skrim for speed of drying, I also have the jersey cooler thats good, can't comment on thermatex, have never been able to afford one but would love to own one, if you can afford it go for that. I do like the look of the weatherbeeta one with netting at the bottom and fleece just along the top

Another vote for Thermatex. Although pricey I found mine on ebay and does a fab job. Just a note - they do come up very large and have a 5ft 6'' fwhich fits my 15hh cob nicely.
