Jim has had colic surgery this week, he has done really well and should be coming home next week :-)
I want to completely clean and sterilise his stable for when he comes back but not sure what to use? Would dettol be ok? Or something else? Any advice greatly appreciated x

FAM 30, you will probably have to go to an agricultural store/shop to buy it. Brilliant stuff!

FAM 30 is an extremely powerful and fast acting Ministry Approved iodophor based disinfectant, approved for animal health use. It is bactericidal, fungicidal & virucidal, offering excellent protection from a wide range of disease causing organisms.

BENEFITS AND FEATURES

* Concentrated Ministry Approved iodophor formulation

* Rapid action against bacteria, viruses & fungi

* Active in the presence of organic matter

* Colour coded to indicate activity

* Biodegradable, stable & safe in use

* Cleans & disinfects in one operation

WHERE TO USE

FAM 30 can be used as a disinfectant & detergent sanitiser in all types of housing, e.g. poultry sheds, calf housing, piggeries, dairies, stables, kennels, catteries, fish farms, veterinary surgeries, abattoirs, cattle markets and animal transporters

I use jeyes, although if I don't want to get stable wet I use the jeyes bin powder and sweep it about. When mattings down I sprinkle carbolic powder down and brush it around, doesn't (well hasn't in 4 yrs) affected my mats!

I use Safe4, it is veterinary strength but completely harmless to animals so it doesnt matter if horse comes into contact with it even when it's wet. Also comes in a variety of nice smells :)

i also use their odour killer which is fabulous, has a delicious candy floss smell :D

Green gloop from fieldguard its completely safe for horses works well and nice smell. I give my rubber matted stables a quick rinse out with diluted gloop at least once a week, and use it in a more concentrated form to disinfect every so often :).
