Hi Everyone.

I was hoping you might be able to recommend a good set of dog clippers. I have 2 CKCS and trim them myself (to a fashion!). My cheap clippers gave up today and I think I'd like a better set this time. I don't mind if they are cordless or not but ideally they are quiet and not crazy expensive but willing to pay a bit more for a decent set.

Any recommendations will be much appreciated.

Thanks

I've got a set of Liveryman Harmony (rechargeable), which are FANTASTIC for doing the dog with!

You can get a smaller, finer blade, which is ideal for doggie - I can pop out to the tackroom if you want and have a mosey to see what grade it is, if you want: plus I've got a "feeder" thingey which looks like a long-toothed comb, and it clips on the top. Thus set-up, these clippers are ideal for a little fluffy terrier like mine as with this blade combination you're able to gently comb through the coat and therefore you don't get such a harsh brash cut with it.

Don't know where you are in the country, but a firm called Clippersharp which is based here in the Westcountry, would no doubt be able to advise you. they sharpen clipper blades as well as a lot of other things and are very happy to send through the post. Worth going onto their website and having a poke around, or even better give them a ring.

I would second Clippersharp, I have used them in the past and they are great! My mum has CKCS and clips her oldies, I think she uses scissors though as she has been on a professional dog grooming course...

Sorry to jump on the post. I've tried clipping my own dogs. I've only used cheap Wahl clippers and found they cut poorly, snag on furr and seem to leave them with clipper soreness.

So now I get them done by someone. Are the above issues because I'm doing something wrong? Or because my clippers are cheap crap?
