Just wondering what bit would be best for my hanoverian? He crosses his jaw and messes with his tongue occasionally getting it over the bit, am is in cavesson noseband at the mo which I have to do up quite tight. He is more resistant and strong with a flash, so am going to get a drop noseband. Am currently using a plain eggbutt, all ideas gratefully received!

Yes would recommend a well fitted drop done up not too tight - one of my horses loves his drop and hates flash nosebands(you could maybe use a french link loose ring snaffle if he doesn't like any poll pressure)- but top of the list would be a french link hanging cheek snaffle as it will sit higher in the mouth so making it more difficult for them to get their tongue over the bit.

I ride my horse who is like this in a drop noseband and hanging cheek snaffle with a french link. He stops messing about and leaning instantly in it.

If he messes with his tongue I'd go for a mullen mouth bit, this wont move/jangle/play or react when he messes, so it should break the cycle of him messing with the bit. Also a mullen mouth will allow a reasonable amount of room for a thickish tongue.
The hanging cheek will allow a bit more room for the tongue, but some horses just don't like them, mine doesn't.
