best dust free totally inedible beds

Hi, my 14 year old TB has developed RAO. i have always had her on dust free chopped straw, and not worried about her nibbling it. Vet is very against this now. Problem is that she eats wood shavings, and also enjoyed eating the sample of megazorb i put down!
Have tried paper, cardboard and egg box but they are all pretty rubbish imo, the eggbox being the best of the three, but messy, slimy and not very absorbent imo. Trying to sort out the bed now whilst she does not need to be in overnight.
anyone had a wood pellet guzzler?, any other beds out there?

I just answered this same post on another forum. I use cardboard bedding. It's one inch squares of cardboard boxes, which is dust-free, easy to handle, banks well, is warm, absorbent, and composts down readily. My veterinary hospital uses the same product, mainly because it is dust-free. I do have one Poitou donkey who thinks it is a lovely form of nutrition, so she cannot be bedded down on it. I have heard of the odd horse that has eaten the pelleted bedding to disastrous effects.
 
I absolutely love paper. I find it really easy to muck out once id got used to it and as a asthma/dust allergy sufferer myself can honestly say its the best bedding ive ever mucked out for breathing problems.
Id use it for all mine now but I cant sweep my yard very well and my muck heap is in an exposed area- I would soon get complaints with chunks of newspaper blowing all over the place.
 
In reply to the wood pellet question! Mine tried them the first night much to my horror but after that never touched his bed again. I don't think they would be that great for a bad dust allergy though as they can get dusty themselves.
 
My mare has tried to eat the wood pellets when I've put them down dry/not soaked them fully (to be fair they look a bit like pony nuts!) she did spit them out pretty much straight away & has never touched them when they've been properly soaked
