This summer should be a fairly quiet one for me, so I am looking at camping at a few of the best events, ideally 3* ones, so where does everyone recommend for having a good spectator atmosphere?

I love Houghton. Never camped but for the Saturday it is £12, there is both 2* and 3* XC on all day, it isn't crowded and is much more relaxed than the bigger events.

I agree with Santa Claus barbury and Blenheim are great down south and hopefully could be competing at both of these this year in the 3 star classes. if you want a more hands on approach, you are welcome to come and help with the Tay machine!

ooh am planning a trip up to Barbury as its not far from current home would be great to see you and Tay in real life action :D

IncaCola: thank you, I'd love a more hands on approach! I love the sport, just don't have the balls to compete myself! So yes, It'd be great to take you up on your offer!

And thank you everyone else too. I wanted to go to Bramham but I have no one to go with and 4 days on my own isn't all that desirable!

I went to Hartpury last year for the first time and it was really enjoyable. Brilliant viewing sat up on the hill.

Oh and the other must go is the Gatcombe British Open Championships at beginning of August again fantastic viewing and lovely tradestands etc:)

Oh yes, IncaCola, totally agree - Gatcombe is brilliant. We hope to have a horse competing there this year - fingers crossed as always!

I've only been there once but was very impressed with Blenheim! Loads to see and do, plus the camping set-up is really good. Will hopefully be there again this year FJ-ing.

Bramham's great, went for the first time last year and will definitely be going again this year. Hartpury's also good as you can sit on the hill and see everything and its never very crowded.
Not a 3* but Glanusk is a really nice event, plenty going on and very picturesque :)

Dont just go and watch, put your self forward to fence judge . Be a part of it all rather than an onlooker.

Another vote for Blenheim. And it's not 3* but the new Wellington Horse Trials (run at Highfield Park) is a nice event.

If you go to the BE web site and look up your local one day events and contact the organiser they are very pleased to here from people to help. You are normally very well looked after with food and drink, some are better than others but if like me you don't ride anymore it's nice to get involved and these things don't run themselves!
