Best Farrier - Staffordshire/Derbyshire border?

All recommendations welcome!

I'm hoping to find someone really experienced although my horse doesn't have any particular problems feet-wise (touch wood!!!)

She is not based around this area but I (think) 'don't quote' she travels... Gemma Sharpe is by far the best we have ever used and works wonders with our horses.

Dan Darley, I was so pleased with him that when we moved to Lincolnshire, we twisted his arm and bribed him with bacon sarnies to still come and do our horses - that's 100 miles he travels (and I pay handsomely for it).

Woh Martlin, that's some recommendation! Do you have a contact number for him please?

Does he work on a Saturday? (I'd just like to be there the first time and I struggle to get time off in the week)

Tim Boulton.

Done grand with all our neds and friends', which includes young horses, neurotic horses, colts, ex-racers, among others.

Like Martlin, if we were to move I'd bribe Tim with whatever it would take to get him to come to do the neds.

We've had shod and unshod and special needs. Tim has managed them all, including making special shoes for the special horse that is Grey Mare

Thanks for the recommendations so far.

Just a few questions for you please!?....

- Are these guys reliable?
- How quickly can you generally get hold of them? (Do you call and wait for them to ring you back?)
- How long have they been qualified?

I will PM you Dan's number.
he is reliable, always on time or rings to let you know and reschedule if something urgent crops up.
I ring, he answers, but I generally book appointment 6 weeks in advance, so rarely need to get hold of him
I'm not sure how old they are when they qualify, but Dan is in his late thirties, so quite a while now.

In staffordshire I use russell haynes, very good, worked along side my vet at pool house when my horse had a ligament injury, always on time, reliable, if I can't get to yard I leave him the money and he will get the horse in, shoe him then put him back out.

Good point applecart14.

I'm not too worried by price (generally you get what you pay for with farriers I think). I have been paying £70 a set at the current yard but am moving to a new area.

I'm also not expecting speediness.

I guess my priority is to have someone who is experienced, skilled and knowledgeable and someone who is quiet with slightly nervous horses (a bit smoke shy, not naughty or bolshy at all)
