best feed to put in snack ball/snack decagon thing

I have one of those decagon snack balls, the ones which don't roll around so much for use in the field and I wonder what's the best feed to put in it as it has quite a large hole (about an inch wide). I want something quite large which won't come out too easily and isn't too fattening, thanks.

we used carrots and apples and neeps, carefullly batoned and cut into small chunks, they have to be quite small to come out or the horses get bored trying.

I have the same one, but I fill it with Hi-Fi and then a handful of pony nuts! Works brilliantly.

Anything dry. I have put diced veg in it but they are evil to clean out so I prefer things that won't leave a trace on the inside if that makes sense

Pony nuts
horse treats - codlivine, spillers etc.

My horse gets so frustrated by these that he bounces it off the walls and eventually stamps on it. He has killed 2, he is not having any more

I got the tip about half filling it with chaff from someone on this forum (sorry whoever it was I can't rememeber) it works brilliantly at slowing the rate at which the nuts fall out.

I use fill it with a mug of D&H Fibre Nuts, 2 diced carrots and then several handfuls of Dengie Good Doer.

Am I doing something wrong - I dice my carrots really small then let them dry so they don't stick on the sides of the ball, but they don't seem to be coming out and my horse gets bored and wanders off?!

Silmarillion - if it is a Snack A Ball, it has a plate inside it to stop things going straight through. Nuts or mix work best. A Decahedron thing doesn't have a plate in it and things can fall straight out.

Ah but the Decahedron is practically indestructable, if you put Badminton High Fibre Nuggets in them they don't fall out straight away because they are treat size

My thugs would break a treat ball in about 5 seconds flat. Sirena even managed to squash a decahedron once

, it was five years old though

i love these things, really show the horses characters. B was a bit scared of his a first and just gently nudges in around with his nose getting every morsel that comes out.

My friends ginger mare who shared fields for a while used just boot hers back between her legs, half way across the field then chase it, while b followed her picking up the bits she had left.

How the hell did they break a ball!? Mine is 6 years old, gets dropped, kicked etc and looks like new. The Decahedron another horse had squished if you so much as looked at it!

Maybe beacuse mine is old its solid? It weighs quite alot - wouldn't want to buy one mail order! lol
