Best flea treatments?

Ive been incredibly lucky with fleas and my dogs, they rarely have ever had them for some reason. Recently though one has had a bit of sore skin and on close inspection I found a flea, just the one but I figure where there's one there are probably many!
The other two dogs I've carefully inspected and cant find anything but will of course do them at the same time.
Whats the best stuff to use these days? Ive got a huge can of spray for the dog beds and carpet, my dad said do round the edges and skirting?
Just need to go today and buy for the actual dogs. One of which is a 6 month puppy if that makes any difference?

You need to spray any crack/crevice so yes around skirting under furniture etc.
the best treatment I found last year when my dog for some reason got fleas was bravecto it's a tablet that I got from vets, cost about 30quid but lasts 3months so price wise it was same as spot on stuff. It also came with a guarantee about killing fleas.
 
I also like Bravecto, especially as my dog isn't a fan of spot-ons. If a spot-on is what you're after then I like Advantage, or Advocate if you want to worm at the same time. Fipronil is the active ingredient with reported resistance, found in Frontline and Effipro so I avoid those.
 
I now use Nexgard. We had a problem in the summer and the fleas were impossible to get rid of - despite treating the house regularly.

Within a few hours Daisy was flea free, and no re infestation.
 
I had a nightmare last summer with fleas, I was treating my dogs and cats with frontline spoton but one of the dogs was scratching constantly. In the end I was treating them every two weeks, costing me a fortune with a dog still scratching! Vet advised advocate for the dogs which has worked a treat. I now spray the house every fortnight but at least the animals are back to every month. Just hoping the problem doesn't return this summer.
 
Hey, L! Frontline spot-on is apparently no longer working as fleas are resistant to the active ingredient. Lots of people have had this problem. We are having to use increasingly stronger chemicals to ensure we can clear the problem.
