I am taking Marnie to Devon a week on Saturday for our annual holiday. One problem is that where we stay is quite bad for flies - where we are in Essex we don't have a problem at all really, and she suffers when we go to Devon. She wears a fly mask and I wanted to find the most effective fly repllent. She sweats quite a lot and so i find that they tend to disappear fairly quickly. I did wonder if there was a 'pour on' one that was effective?

Any recommendations? I am also going to chat to my vet to see if they have any ideas.

Thanks!

We use deosect on all our horses - It is expensive (or rather looks it) but when you work it out it is extremely cheap! It costs about £60 for a 1 litre bottle, but you then only use about 10ml repellant per 1litrel of water (or something like that, would have to read the label and check) So it lasts for ages!

In "ideal" conditions, eg, no rain/sweat etc it can last for about a week before the horse needs respraying. When we are competing, it takes seconds to become effective, and keeps the flies away all day, even if the horses are sweating buckets.

another one for power phaser!!!!

Never heard of Power Phaser - better start 'googling'!!

Have just spoken to my vet who recommended Coopers or Switch (pour on) as I was concerned about Marnie getting sweaty and spray on being washed off, but I think that Switch is most effective against midges.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Deosect. Only needs be applied every four weeks, more only if the flies are really bad. A £28 can lasts us with six animal for two years. Most importantly - IT WORKS!!
