Our big ginger lad needs a new fly rug. His current one zaps him with an electric shock when we take it off (it's the silky sort) and last summer he kept anticipating the rug removal by running around his stable. Not fun when he's 17'2"! So I'm looking for a new one and thought I might find one in the sales. Any recommendations? Cheers

Don't know of one that doesn't do the static thing (though it makes a difference what shoes I have on). I have the rambo sweetitch hoody - is fab. OH mare has the derby house one, it is really excellent for the £. Comes up a little large though so if between sizes I would go down one. Belly cover and cap thing at the top of the neck so it doesn't slide down. Really protects her well from the flys - not the worst for static either.
(just checked, derby house don't do at atm, but this one appears totally idential http://www.thepetfoodco.co.uk/store_main.asp?int_product_id=227)

I used the rAMBO Buzz blockers last year and they are great, no rips, no rubbing of the horses and no electric shocks. Ready to be used again this year. I originally had the Mark Todd combo fly rugs and they were useless, snagged and rubbed really badly:(

Im surprised allover said they disliked the marktodd fly rug. I absolutely adore them! Reflective of light rather than taking it in to make horse too hot, stretch at the wither area to stop it pulling on shoulders, nice under belly flap that doesnt always come undone, really long neck that does right up to the ears and doesnt constantly fall down, nice tail flap, really hard wearing- last rugs lasted only a year, so far this one has lasted 2 years and only has one small rip which was caused by something so sharp anyway that went all the way through and cut Dancer really deep on the rump. the hole hasnt even gotten bigger though as it was done about a year ago.
I just bought a new one for my youngster too and def would not get any other make now. They have been reduced to £44 here:

Rambo sweet itch hoodie - whether horse has sweetitch or not! Hardwearing, wash like new and last forever. You may get your size cheaper in the sales as guessing your horse is a 6'9 - 7'0.

How strange as mine rubbed all the horses within a few days of them wearing them, the rugs were the right size for the horses and 2 off them snagged really badly. I actually sent them back. Mine are also TBs and a polo pony and all different shapes (ie fat and not fat :D) Maybe i was just unlucky?!

Premier Equine had some in their sale I saw the other day. Not sure how static they are or otherwise though as we don't use fly rugs.

premier equine is amazing ive had same one for 2 years so far - fits and works great!!! - and £30 is a bargain!

Tip for the shocking thing. - Fold it up, bringing tail flap to withers and peeling neck careffully away from body to withers - Then lift off as high as you can. (with a 17.2 you might need a step!) Its the sliding over the hair that zaps them!
