Am just curious to find out if any of you have a really good effective fly spray? The ones I've always got have never really worked that well, and I want something effective. :)

Save your money, love! None of the commercial flysprays are any cop for longer than an hour.

On my Sweet Itch mare, I use a mix of 400ml 10% Benzyl Benzoate to 100ml Neem Oil. Shaken before use, I apply it 3 times a week, by simply pouring a little at a time onto a grooming brush. It lasts for 48hrs. She's a bit of an oil slick, but she isn't ridden and it's easily removed by sponging with Dermoline Shampoo, for those who want to ride and not end up underneath ;)

200ml cold strong tea
15 drops pure citronella oil
1 tbsp neat citurs sented washing up liquid
1 tbsp white viniger or cider vinigar
put into a cheap spray bottle, shake before use and it works like magic !!

Only commercial fly repellant that works IMO is coopers fly repellant plus, not only repels them but kills the flies that do land too!! works wonders on all 3 of mine, but it is damn expensive, thankfully there are only certain spots the blighters go for so treat only those areas! (makes it last longer!) on the up side you only need to re-apply every 2 to 4 days depending on severity of the flies!

Apologies, only just come back to the thread. I buy Neem Oil from SpicesofIndia (an Indian supplies website), but you can also get Neem Oil lotion (the pure is often solid at room temperature!).

I get my BB from Hyperdrug.

Likewise. I only use Coopers now as I was wasting money on rubbish.I only do bellies and faces really to eek out a bottle

Get some Barricade from the vets, dilute and put it into a sprayer. I use it all the time. It is so effective the flies used to land on me to bite me instead of the horse, until i started dousing myself as well!
