My mare has always been barefoot before I had her(12 months) but in very light work.

I had her front shod as she was very reluctant to go forward and seemed foot sore when out hacking on our stony ground. I started working her more and took advice for her to be fully shod. Unfortunately I am unable to keep to this level of work and we have gone back down to light work also I did not like the way she slipped on the hilly lanes that surround our yard.
Six weeks on, I have had the backed removed. I am expecting that her feet will be a bit sore unshod. I have given her a couple of days off, we went for a hack yesterday but she was very reluctant and nappy for the first time in months.
Please could you advise if I have/ am doing the right thing? and how to put our best foot forward?

I may have messed up but my intention has always been for the very best for my lovely girl.

Every day is a new learning curve.

You need to find out for sure why she is showing signs of pain .
It's not normal for horses to slip a lot shod my shod horses do masses of road work no problem .they BF to shod and back again without it causing issues on the road .
You must not lightly assume that a BF horse showing signs of pain ' is just feely ' .
I would get a experienced vet to come and see .
My experience of boots is that on big moving athletic horses they can cause more issues than they solve although all my horses have boots .
