Don’t need to be PC approved or anything, just something that works for hacking and playing in an open field. I have never met Daisy reins that work but maybe I didn’t get them the right size or something? We have pared down baling twine ones atm (thin enough they would snap if needed but keep pony from endless grass munching) which work but it would be easier if we had something designed for the job!

Recommendations anyone?

Piece of string fastened to the D on the front of the saddle, run it through the bit rings and fasten back to the other D. Stops them putting their head down but doesn't restrict side to side movement.

This is what we have, but they come undone at the most irritating times! Then if I tie them more securely, they are difficult to get off at the end! I don’t remember having such problems when I was a child - maybe baling twine was less slippery in the 1980s…?

You could make some from an old pair of reins cut to length and with a clip on each end.

It was, I swear!
I use clips off lead-reins, leg straps etc. and securely tie the bale string to those; then can unclip quickly when needed rather than deal with the ridiculous knot I tied that I was sure would come undone with one pull... When I'm being fancy (e.g. dog lead!) I vetrap the ends to make it look neat and tidy...
