After yesterday's adventure I'm going to need a new hat. I told the nice ambulance people that I hadn't hit my head but I have woken up with a massive egg on the back of my head and I have no idea how I got it. I think I must just have not realised over the pain in my hip.

I have a wierd shaped head so will need somewhere with a very good range of skull caps to try. I'd really like an HS1 but they undoubtedly won't fit!

Meynall Saddlery at Brailsford are brilliant for that sort of thing and will get hats in for you with no obligation. I'd try them first.

After them, spondon saddlery have moved out to Cavendish Bridge near Shardlow, they always used to be pretty good so would be worth a try. Or the Equestrain at Idridgehay is pretty good too, although not always the best at returning calls if you want to order stuff.

I'd avoid RE Farms, they are awkward about ordering stuff in to try and the staff are quite variable, if you are lucky then you get a horse mad teenager who will try very hard to help you but have limited knowledge, if you are unlucky you either struggle to get any help at all or you get the VERY pushy man who puts the hard sell on you..........

Depending on where you are (I can't remember :o): Risley Saddlery - very good at fitting hats; or Eland Lodge has a good range and seem to fit well. D1 got a showing hat on Saturday (we only went for a look-see!). Come to think of it, we've have an equal number of hats from Risley and from Eland lol. Very knowledgeable people in both places :D

Ditto All of this! And also rate Risely Saddlery - avoid RE Farms at all costs! They also charge £10 for fitting!

Yes Risley are helpful, never had a hat fitted there myself though.

Derby House at Matlock fitted hubby's last one and they were good but they aren't always the cheapest......

Meynall are my first choice normally, they have fitted nearly all of my hats over the years! They used to be Hulland Saddlery back in the good old days!

£10 for a fitting is daylight robbery! Risley is practically on the way home so will call in there for a first try.

I know! I was horrified! In the end I had her running backwards and forwards getting me different sizes as I think I was more qualifed than her to fit hats!
I know of someone that was sold a hat there that was far far too tight, the poor young girl got headaches everytime she rode and struggled to even squeeze it on, the girl there had told her thats how it should be so it doesnt fall off so she persevered untill someone noticed how much she was struggling

Well I agree Risley saddlery is good, got my hat from there. And agree RE farm is ****. Got my body protector from there, and it hit the back of the saddle in walk on every stride!! They refused to admit they had done anything wrong in fitting it like that, so eventually got the Rodney Powell rep in (who was much better than the staff!) who then took the BP back to chop 2 inches off the back. Wasn't impressed at all with RE, they were unhelpful and I could have fitted the bloody thing better myself!!

Yikes! I wonder if the manufacturers know that RE are charging a fitting fee - hats are safety equipment! I've never paid a fitting fee (and I've had tonnes of safety gear over the years).
