I have been using the Scientific Nutritional Products Robust Hoof but I am unconvinced as to whether its been of any benefit. So.... oh fonts of all knowledge.... what do you guys use ??

Dengie natural vitality coat and hoof. Seems to work quite quickly compared to other I've used eg farriers formula, cornucresine feed supp, formula 4 feet etc. And is a good price as far as I'm concerned eg about £23 per a month for a 15 hh horse (lasts twice as long for a pony).

I apply courescine in the morning and kevin bacon dressing in the evening and have noticed a difference after 2 months. I have just started feeding Global Herbs Supahoof supplement too.

I've tried loads and in the end just put him on lo cal balancer baileys, and apply Kevin bacon dressing a few times a week and I can't believe the difference! I can even see a clear ridge in his hoof where the new better hoof is growing down!

I am using Naf Pro Feet supplement, having previously used Farrier's Formula and Formula4Feet, and can say it is producing more quality hoof than its predecessors. I also use Kevin Bacon daily. Can you tell i own a TB? ;)

I'm trying Kevin Bacon after reading good stuff about it on here. Huge tub was about £14 &
after 4 months use level has dropped about 1cm so looks like it will last for ages. As another poster said there's a ridge on every hoof but whether that's the dressing or not I'm not sure. Think it'll be a few more months before I know if it's helping or not. Also sneakily haven't told farrier I'm trying it so interested to see if he notices any changes!

It's not just about adding a supplement.

It depends on what else you are feeding alongside.

^^^ This!

The reason you'll get 50 different answers as to whats best is because people get different results with different products due to the variables i.e. other hard feed, grass and hay/haylage fed
Healthy feet (and bodies too) are connected to good mineral balance, if the balance is wrong you're unlikely to get good feet, if the magic foot supplement doesn't balance the other things you're feeding then it will pretty much dance itself out.
Cornucrescine is just an irritant that encourages growth but will have no impact on the quality of the horn grown.

Another vote for Pro Feet!

Horse got a quater crack and vet college farrier said he didnt believe in supplements but said whatever i am on - keep him on it as making the foot grow fast and very strong!!!

I used to use all the specialist hoof supplements out there but since switching to Bailey's Lo Cal balancer this year, and using Kevin Bacon regularly, I can honestly say mine's feet are a whole lot better this year and I'm hoping for a winter without the weekly shoe losses of last winter. I also feed linseed meal which I know helps her skin, coat and joints AND hooves I expect, as well.

Corn flower , from tescos has done wonders for mine. His feet where terrible when he came.
He's also fed dengie healthy hooves and conditioning cubes.

My vet, and the Liphook farrier (Equine Referral Hospital) both recommended Better4Hooves at the best foot supplement.

It has a very high specification, and at £49 for three months, works out one of the cheapest (of the high spec supplements). http://www.better4hooves.co.uk/

It is also recommended by well known remedial farrier David Nicholls - http://www.totalfootprotection.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=184&Itemid=1

You need high levels of biotin, combined with the methionine and zinc in bioavailable forms. You want to be feeding 25mgs plus a day of biotin, for remedial feet.

You would also want to be feeding a diet that included reasonable quality protein, and covered a broad spectrum of vits and minerals.

Another vote for Dengie healthy hooves. One of my mares has awful feet, britle and cracked, got to the point last year where my farrier could hardly get shoes on her and nearly had to go for glue ons (which we really didnt want to do). I put her on Dengie healthy hooves along side her fibre beet and stamina mix and haylage and also when they are looking a bit dry i use effol hoof ointment and touch wood they are looking fab! No more filler and we have gone from shoes hanging off after 4 weeks to shoeing every 6 weeks and shoes still nice and tight and no cracks :D but like others have said its about getting the whole balance right for your horse.
