Its been a while since I have posted on here, more of a moocher these days :)

I have had my mare (IDxCob) for 3 years and prior to this other than a foot balance problem which was corrected some 18 months ago, she has never had problematic feet.

However this year, over the past 8 weeks she has been suffering problems with her hooves cracking and parts breaking/chipping off. There have been no changes to her diet, she is fed Happy Hoof and Equine America MSM. He field has been a bit of a washout with the weather, not sure if this hasnt helped and only exhasberated this?

I have spoken with my farrier for advice, he has reassured me that it is not something to be overly concerned about and suggested that I try her on a hoof supplement. Ok Im willing to give it a go, the trouble is there are so many different brands which all claim different things!! So which one??

Thought I would be best asking you experts ;) for advice

Which brands are worth trying and which are not really worth my money, any assistance would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi there,

I have a friend that swears by farriers formula also keratex which you can paint onto the feet to harden them and protect them. You just paint it towards the top of the foot to help protect and strengthen the feet as they grow in the long run creating a healthier foot. Theres not alot you can do for the existing cracks :( good luck!

Brinicombe Equine's Foot Perfect for me. Ive had fabulous results after my horse had a keratoma op and I was riding again after only 4 months! the hoof growth was amazing, so much so my farrier now recommends the product to everyone. That said, if you are just feeding Happy Hoof and MSM, is your horse getting enough general vits and mins? Poor nutrition will lead to poor feed. The specific supplements are great if your horse is already getting a good basic diet but still has poor feet..but if his basic diet is lacking you may find fixing that gives you the result you need (and a GP supp will be cheaper than a hoof one!):)
