Hi, my horses shoes are being taken off next week whilst I have my baby and until I can ride him again, sometime near Xmas.
He has flat heels and the farrier is trying to sort them out as he goes lame on any kind of stoney ground. Natural balance shoeing didn't really help.
What's the best supplement for trying to grow his feet?
He's going to be fed fast fibre and a low sugar chaff.

Pro Balance is about the best.

Dont bother with the chaff the FF will be fine, add micronised linseed for weightgain :)

The feet need stimulating and work so if hes going to be turned away in a wet muddy field dont expect his feet to grow magically :)

Pro Balance is great, my lad's been on it since June and going well. The only other thing I'd suggest would be magnesium oxide at about 45g per day, assuming you use a full dose of Pro Balance.

Hope it all goes well :)

The supplement i have seen the most growth with is farriers formula that consistently performs best here.
But the key word is here I think it's likely that as none of these products are the same you differences in how they perform according to where you graze the horse or where your fodder comes from.

Thanks, I've looked on the net to buy pro balance and one place is selling a 1kg tub for £62 and eBay is selling 1.8kg for £15! Should I trust the eBay one?

I'm surprised you found the ProBalance anywhere other than eBay, as far as I know they have an eBay shop, but don't sell anywhere else?

The ProBalance+ seller on eBay is the "manufacturer" of It :)

It's good stuff, but as others have said, how good any hoof supplement is depends on how well it matches the deficiencies or excesses of minerals in your grazing. I'm sure there's grazing out there somewhere that's absolutely perfect and needs no added minerals, but I haven't found it yet ;)

A balanced diet is the key and not all supplements are created equal. Best thing is to do an as fed calculation or use a program like feedxl or Nutrition requirements of Horses from NRC.

Minerals and vits need to be fed in balance as excess/deficency in one will affect others.
