But random, but..... your best hoover for dog/pet hair? Our dyson has packed up and I have to say it was fairly rubbish. It was the pet hair one and it was probably my fault as I didnt always do what you are supposed to do with filters etc - very boring!

As I dont really want to fork out several hundred quid on a new expensive hoover - What cheaper hoover do any of you recommend that good at getting stubborn black lab hair out of a cream (landlords choice not mine!) carpet!!!

Thanks all :-)

Cylinder - Henry

Upright - whatever cyclonic is on offer. If your Dyson is less than five years old and you have proof of purchase they will come & fix it FOC.

I think they all tend to be good, however after a year they dont pick up. Ive spent alot over the years on all the top animal one and everyone has stopped picking up. So i now buy cheap ones off ebay £30 ones ( re firm) loads better.

We used to have a Dyson animal and once it got to about 10 years old it was needing replaced. I was the same, didn't want to fork out for a new one. Bought a Vax one instead. It's very similar, bagless and upright (is that the right technical terms??) and does a great job. It was £80 from Tesco direct. We have lots of huskies so it's well tested. It is however very very loud!!

Thanks all, I have had new and reconditioned dysons and I agree, they do tend to lose pick up after a while. Think I will investigate the vax one and see how we go. :0)

On one of the multitude of times we had someone out to fix our dyson (Animal one) he told me, 'off the record' they weren't designed to last longer than 5 (ish) years anyway. Not great considering their price? Tho that one was fixed FOC several times,I'd rather not have been without a vacuum for days and waiting in for repair man on multiple occasions-pain in the b*tt.
