I'm just getting back into competing and my nerves are always shot to pieces. can anyone recommend a good calmer for me! if i'm calm, the horse is calm- otherwise we'll both wind each other up!!!

Rescue Remedy or have a session of TFT, or to quote Bridget Jones, there is always vodka

When my mate took my horse to her first dressage test she had 2 double vodkas

She gets terrible nerves and it makes her sick, Vodka did the trick. Maybe not the best remedy but it certainly worked and we still laugh about it.

L-tyrosine - you can buy it at Holland and Barrett or basically any health food store online.

Read up about it - it's amazing stuff. It's just a healthfood supplement basically but it's effects are amazing.

i've tried rescue remedy before, but not sure if it works- tastes nice though! ok, might try the alcoholic calmers although i'm worried that by the time the alcohol overcomes the adrenalin, it will also overcome my balance. especially when i can't bring myself to eat anything beforehand! this could be fun!

If I do get a bit nervy then I have a vodka and lemonade. It just takes the edge off and means I can sit to his huge trot!

have to take Diazepam to get in an aeroplane, but darent take that whilst in control of a horse!!!!!!!!!

Equiminns do a serenity capsule and they work I promise you, took them when after a very bad fall to get back into riding. My friend took them before her 2nd driving test ( failed 1st time due to nerves ) and passed. My other friend now uses them at comps all the time. You can also get a super doper rescue remedy if the other one doesn't touch the sides.
