Best insurance company?

Could you please advise me on the best insurance company for a dog. I want one that is honest and does what it says on the tin. So many seem to wriggle when it comes to the crunch - heard one such story today from someone having to pay £8000 hip op and insurers will only pay half!

Honestly, most of the 'wriggle' stories are because people don't understand the policy they've chosen (annual instead of lifetime, inappropriately low vet fee cover or higher excesses in order to get the cheaper premium, not thinking that pre-existing conditions could possibly apply to them). With the possible exception of E&L, none of them are really that awful.

That said - go Petplan, take it out early on, get lifetime, don't switch.
