Looking for a good insurance deal for my puppy & 2 year old bitch that won't break the bank!!

Kennel Club & PetPlan seem mega expensive to me (almost as much as I pay for one of my horses!)

More Than & Direct Line gave me good quotes but are they anywhere near as good as the aforementioned?

PetPlan are expensive, but they offer a great service when you do need to claim. We have all our animals insured with them, and they have always been great at paying for claims.

Our dog broke his leg when he was a year old and had to have orthopeadic surgery and months of treatment which cost nearly £3k in total and they paid out without any fuss.

I think you get what you pay for. I have all 3 of mine with Petplan and don't think they have made any money out of us for years. Every claim we make is paid quickly and fully.
My brother is with Tesco I think and he is up to his limit and is having to cotton wool wrap his dogs so he doesn't have to make any more claims til next year (ongoing health problems) His is cheaper but nowhere near as good.

I am with Argos and they have paid out very quickly every time. I know a lot of people prefer not to use 'supermarket' companies but it was the only quote I could afford and after looking into it they offer all the same things as the bigger 'better' ones do.

Personally I use petplan. They don't increase your premium every year either (except by inflation).

What I would say is that whichever company you go for is to choose a whole life plan. There are 3 basic types of pet insurance.

( 1)Basic cover will pay out for a year up to the insured amount and then exclude that condition for ever.

(2) The second type will pay up to an amount, say 4k for as long as that amount lasts and then exclude the condition.

(3) A whole life policy will give you the insured amount every year as long as you keep paying the premium.

Obviously a whole life plan costs more because the stats are that 40% of pet owners will claim on their pet insurance every year. Also bear in mind that as a pet ages the insurance company is likely to ask you to pay a contribution towards the costs (typically 20%) at the moment. But the other 80% of costs for a condition like diabetes is huge.

Hope this is helpful.

I have just insured my new rescue dog with pet plan, after just being stung with a bill from more than after my darling digger dog was injured and very sadly had to be put to sleep 3 weeks ago.

we have to pay a bill of over £100 as he died 4months before his insured year was due to end, so we are currently paying insurance for a dead dog....
we have called them but its in the small print so they wernt having any of it.

All my horses are with Petplan and have been great so even though the dog is actually more than each one of the horses if something happens (god forbid) to him i wont have to pay for the remainder of the year.

I hope this makes sence but its actually the first time ive managed to talk about the loss of Digger and its still all very upsetting, i just wouldnt want anyone else to have to go threw this and be stung with what could be an even larger bill, luckly Digger only had 4months left of his year and not anymore or the bill would have been a lot larger

I have Popple with NFU, and because I have one of my horses with them, then I get a discount.

I was just about to ask if anyone used NFU Puppy

What are they like in terms of cover? I am thinking of putting my two with them next year

I'm with Argos too, for the same reasons! I have the Platinum cover so I get cover for as long as my £7000 Vet's Fees lasts, not for just 12 months.

So far they have been very helpful and have changed our policy to save us money without changing the level of cover, without prompting!
