So I have a somewhat accident prone horse who is regularly coming in with swollen legs/lumps and bumps etc. and I just want something I can put on and leave on to cool them down. I know running water is the best, but I could do with something I can leave on i.e cooling bandages or something (used to use clay but recent research seems to suggest against this)

Sorry, that is very poorly written but I hope you get the idea :D

Thanks :)

The very best thing is good, old fashioned ice if you can? The bags for making ice cubes are great because they are just the right size and wrap round legs well. (with a towel between ice and skin of course!

Cooling gel would be next best but should only be used if no cuts/open wounds, so may not be suitable for some/all injuries.

I like the Cool Pack Green Jelly from Farnam, find it very useful at shows where access to and time to wash off cold clay can be a problem, just whack it on, no need to bandage etc and there's no messy residue to get rid of the next day. Pretty effective coolant/astringent.
