I'm very happy so thought I'd share!

I have owned my mare for almost six years and having always showjumped, 10 months ago we decided to try our hand at dressage. April last year I took up lessons with my current instructor. At that stage my mare went like a complete girraffe. I took up contact on the reins her head went higher.

Eventually with lessons we managed to get her round in trot to the point that as soon as I pick my reins up now she goes in to an outline and is also now in a snaffle for everything instead of her kimblewick. For the last few months we have really strugged with her canter. Soon as I asked for canter her head went up and she refused to bring it down!

Went for my lesson today and wow! 10 months on she went in to canter and stayed in a lovely outline, her flying changes and counter canter are really coming on and I know it might not sound like much to you guys but we did medium trot for the first time in my lesson today. It felt amazing! So powerful and elevated! I'm so pleased with her!!

And why she might not have wanted to lower her head! Photo taken of her with her old owner before I got her!

Her canter has only come on drastically in the last few weeks really so up until now we have been sticking to mainly walk and trot tests but we are starting to enter prelim tests this year and I'm really looking forwards to it. Unfortunatly I live in the depths of Wales and I don't have that much opportunity to compete but hopefully we will try for a competition every month now and I would love to make the team for the riding club area qualifiers this summer with her!
