Best lightweight trailer?

I've finally decided to pick the trailer and then find a car that will pull it. The trailer needs to be able to carry a mix of either a 15.3ish TB, 14.2 Traditional or 13.3 Traditional. Needs to be as lightweight as possible but safe. If anyone has any advice that would be much appreciated as well as any experiences people have. Thanks!

Batesons are fab trailers. They're lightweight to tow & very easy to manhandle into position. Light & airy inside for the horse too. As a cack handed person at the best of times I have found them to be the easiest to attach to your towing vehicle compared to Ifors & Rices as well. I can highly recommend them. I've carried a mix of 17.3hh TBxID, 14.2hh PBA, 11hh Sec A, 13.2 Exmoor Cross, & lots more.

Bateson or cheval. I have a cheval and it's great, weighs 1100kg but carries 3 horses herringbone, so sturdy and gives a great ride.

Have been somewhat disappointed with my IW 505 classic bought from new in 2006, rattles and build quality, and would choose a Bateson anther time

Bateson Derby and Deuville, Rice Richardson, Pegasus and Bayhill.

I recommend that your towing vehicle has a decent HP (horsepower) as this makes all the difference on long inclines.
My Rice Richardson weighs 650KG. Here is a photo of my outfit complete with 17.1hh horse weighing in around 680KG. Car Vauxhall Vectra Elite can tow up to 1600KG.

I believe (might be wrong) that the Bateson Derby is the lightest 2 horse trailer on the market. Difficult to find second hand and they hold their price well.

Do you have your B+E or will you be doing it?

I've got a Bateson Deauville that is towed by a Disco 1 and it's fab, but weight hasn't been a factor as OH has his B+E and I'm getting ready to do my trailer test (again...).

I had the Derby and it is great for two ponies but i had to take the partition out to travel my 16hh horse and i got sick of that.......nice light box though

Needs to be as lightweight as possible but safe.

Why? If you're towing on a B licence and therefore keeping everything under 3500kg, I think it'll be impossible to find a car/trailer combo and tow two dobbins.

Another vote for Bateson. Had my Derby from new 20 years ago and have just refurbished it with spares direct from Bateson at very reasonable cost.

I sold my Cheval Liberte last year due to horse being out of work, but wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I've got my B+E, I'd like it to be as light as possible because the car I've found I like most can pull 2,200kg so trying to figure out if that's enough for trailer and two horses plus extra bits. If not I'll have to find a different car

In that case, I'd go for a Bateson Deauville or Ascot .
Trailer - 860kg
Horse - 500kg (x2, rough estimate)
Total = 1860kg, leaving you with 360kg room.

Most double trailers on the market are 1000 kg max empty so if you had one of those it would still leave 1200 for the trailer load

The trailer can be plated higher than the towing capacity but if that is the case then the towing capacity becomes the max total weight limit which can be towed
If the trailer is plated lower than the towing capacity then the trailer plate becomes the max that can be towed

In your experience, given that you are into the trailer laws, etc is this correct or not as I am completely confused? My tack, me and a passenger do not even equal the balance.

You are right with a B+E licence but may not be with B
